I think it started with people making pseudo-margaritas with Corona  
lager, which was, I believe, originally from Mexico (no idea where  
it's made now).

In theory, you have a point, but if you're worried about the integrity  
of beer flavor, Budweiser probably has little or no integrity to  
jeopardize.
