In the US, Hurricane Ike was much worse than Gustav. It sounds like 
the US govt. is paying attention to Ike in ways they sure didn't to 
Katrina when the dikes broke around New Orleans 3 years ago. Much of 
New Orleans is still a mess. I suspect that Texas will be taken care 
of reasonably.

However, the combination of Hurricanes Gustav, Hannah, and Ike was 
very hard on the Caribbean, especially Haiti and Cuba. Donating to 
hurricane funds run by reputable international relief agencies would 
be what i'd recommend.
