[Sca-cooks] Gulf Wars

Gulf Wars was very nice. I think I've finally been relieved

of the "Rain King" moniker. It rained until Monday and the

rest of the week had perfect weather.

There isn't much cookery to report.

The Battlefield Bakery was there and making wonderful

baked goods. I think the owner may be on the list or

used to be. Their bakery set-up in a large tent is

definately on my envy list.

The A&S competition had one food related entry, I

belive. It was a display of various redactions of

crawfish recipes. I wish I'd had the time to sit and

read the documentation but it was a very amusing

and original idea.

The barbecue competition wasn't as bad as we'd feared.

It was held during the "Gleann Abhann Social" and really

wasn't much different than the "Ansteorran Chili Party".

There was a large central courtyard with a few teams

of competitors lined up around the edges. They served

several types of barbecue at each station and you cast

a vote on which team you liked the best.

There weren't any really period choices but a couple

came close, like the whole roast pig and one with a

nice vinegar sauce.

Our daily meals were all basically modern as we and our

staff were too busy to deal with making a period menu

as well. Perhaps next year I'll get to do more period cookery.

I hope others on the list are able to provide more details

about GW as we were pretty much running all over the place.

Gunthar
