[Sca-cooks] shelling walnut help

We used to crack black walnuts at my grandparent's farm in Illinois.
We did it by using a vise that was mounted on the concrete lid of the  
cistern.
We found hammers didn't work very well. Maybe if we'd had a sledge  
hammer.
