Goetta is a Cincinnati / Northern kentucky staple. It's origins seem
shrouded in history. Not really German per se, though some people
claim that it was brought to Cincy by German immigrants. It is a close
relative to the Pennsylvania Dutch scrapple. It's a meat and pinhead
oats mix, vs. scrapple, which has meat bits and cornmeal and flour.

There is a festival surrounding it called "Goetta Fest," sponsored by
one of the local producers of goetta, Glier's http://www.goetta.com/.

You either love it or you hate it. I like it sliced and fried, served
with maple syrup. You can get it at just about any store in the
Tristate (SW Ohio, SE Indiana, N. Kentucky) area, including Jungle
Jim's. They can also do mail order.
