Modernly, porcupine is das Stachelschwein.

Ferkelein refers to a small suckling pig.  Ferkelmaus is a common zoological 
name for guinea pig.  As a guess, I would say it is likely "Indianische 
Ferklein" is a reference to guinea pig.
