Will you describe this a little better please, having trouble with candy apple pickles.  Were they sweet pickles or dills?  Red "hard boil" candy?  Really?

I recently was treated to candied cucumbers at a feast I went to 2 weekends
ago.  Really don't know if it's period it made an excellent dessert option..
but was made along the lines of candied apples.
