You could use the 1611 definition

1611 R. COTGRAVE Dict. French & Eng. Tongues, Macarons, Macarons;  
little Fritter-like Bunnes, or thicke Losenges, compounded of Sugar,  
Almonds, Rosewater, and Muske.
