Here are two options I sometimes use. Both create images rather than
text, but they're quick and painless.
1. Print screen. For this, you will have to figure out how the "print
screen" option works on your computer. (For me, there's a key that says
"Prt Sc" and "Sys Rq" on the upper right of the keyboard, next to the
Insert key.) Pressing "print screen" will save an image of the current
screen to the clipboard, which you can then paste into a graphics
program and alter at your leisure. This is useful in all kinds of
situations where you want to show someone what your computer screen
looks like (for trouble-shooting, teaching folks how to use a program, etc.)
2. Print to file. I use CutePDF, which is a Windows program that adds
a "printer" to your list of printers. Hitting "print" and then
selecting CutePDF allows you to name & save a PDF. This is good for
quick saves of individual webpages. I also use it when I want to share
handouts online but don't want to pass out editable files.
