[Sca-cooks] bananas

This is peripheral to bananas, but I wonder if there are others whose Grammas did the same.  When there were fleas while we visited her in the summers, she would go down to some place where the bannanas were received and get banana stalks, place these 
cross the doorways and no more fleas
 
I have wondered if using the banana peels might accomplish the same thing (especially now that I cannot get the cans you sat in a small amount of water and took a minute to start "fizzing" which gave me time to get out of the room and out of the house without breathing in any of the stuff!
