My experience is that pub food varies and in some smaller establishments
what you are getting is courtesy of the microwave and whatever was in  
the freezer.
That goes especially for the puddings.  My fallback is to just eat  
fish and chips.
  We have also taken to stopping at either Marks & Spencer Express or  
Tesco Express while in London
and taking back a sandwich or smoked salmon with cheese or just a  
dessert, if we
have been out all day and have had a big lunch.
