The essence of the relatively brief post is:
What modern dishes we eat could not have existed in the Middle Ages not because of distance between New World and Old, but because the harvest times of the various ingredients were so different that one could not practically make them?

As we are in a time of year during which many of us cook seasonal or quasi-seasonal dishes, i though this might be an appropriate question.
