Regarding tea kettles this is the one I've been lusting after. Does not whistle how ever.

Subject: [Sca-cooks] OOP -- tea kettle adventures
Just spent the afternoon trolling all over town for a new whistling tea kettle. Burned out the 2d Indonesian "Revereware" in a row, so spent some time on-line reading up and then driving around town to see who had what & about price$$$. Looking for something, ANYthing NOT "Hecho en Chine"! Also, didn't want an electric hot water pot, Brit-style, even if they are good in lots of ways; don't need any more electric appliances.
Ended up with a $10 Medelco with German borosilicate lab glass. We decided against the LeCreuset's because one of the shop-ladies said her daughter had melted the enamel onto her stove burner once! There were one or two other all-metal ones, but very $$$$$$$.
So we'll see if the great klutz (me) can operate one of these, 8-). Being made of glass, MAYBE that will keep me on my toes about handling it, heating it right, etc. If not, it's only $10.
Wish me luck!
