It's a Middle Eastern/North African spice mix typically containing a dozen or so herbs and spices and used as the primary seasoning in that part if the world. The phrase "ras al-hanout" literally means "head of the shop" and is understood to mean "our best spice mix." Most modern versions contain new world ingredients like allspice or some kind of capsicum derivative, so a strictly old world version of it is a real find.
