Many years ago my then husband and I honeymooned on the Big Island.  We 
decided to enjoy the difference by climbing Moana Loa (they wouldn't let 
us take the car t the ski slope on Mauna Kea.  We decided to hike across 
the snow pack to the hut on the top of Mauna Loa.  Bad move.  We got 
caught out all night on the face of the mountain in the snow with only 
some boulders to break the wind.  There was a thunderstorm going on a 
few hundred feet below us.  The next day we reached the hut only to find 
it had been badly vandalized.  We had stopped shivering and knew we had 
to get down right away or we would die of hypo-thermia on Hawaii.  We 
made it but ended our stay suffering from Sunburn, windburn, and 
frostbite.  Fortunately for us we were coming from our wedding in 
Connecticut in February, and heading back "home" to Anchorage, Alaska at 
the end of the honeymoon so we actually had some warm clothing and boots 
with us.
