I'm surprised you found someone so close who could do this. Although  
it is possible to do the re-tinning yourself, you are likely to get a  
better finish with someone who has done it before and has the  
equipment set up to do it.  If you do this, please let us/me know so  
we can know for the future as well.

As Aelina mentions, I would check to make sure they are using a lead- 
free finish. Also considering how old these pans are, I would test or  
get them tested before re-tinning them. You might need to removed the  
lead-containing tin which is already on them first, before re-tinning  
them. It is also possible that the tin does not have lead in it,  
whether applied as a liquid film or done with electro-platting.
