Kiri sent this to several of us back in January as she prepared to take
a leave of absence from the Compleat Anachronist:

"I have been diagnosed with a polyp in my remaining colon that, while it
is not malignant at this time, could become so. As I've already been
through two bouts of colon cancer (over 25 years ago), even with that
amount of intervening time, the doctors don't want this to have a chance
to develop into cancer. As I am in good health otherwise, this shouldn't
be that big a deal.

"I have surgery scheduled for March 7, and will be in the hospital for 4
- 6 days, depending on how I do. Following that I'll be at home. The
surgeon says that he wants me to give myself 8 - 12 weeks before doing
anything really strenuous. It's more a matter of making sure I don't
get a hernia since I've had surgery in that neighborhood on three
previous occasions."

One assumes that there must have been complications from the surgery,
but that is only a guess...
