I did come across this book which might have something in it.
Passover and Easter: Origin and History to Modern Times (Two  
Liturgical Traditions) by Paul F. Bradshaw and Lawrence A. Hoffman  
(Feb 1999).

Mistress Jadwiga did research on Easter eggs. Maybe she has some ideas.
