But is there such a thing as one "true sandalwood"? "Sandal" goes back
to ancient Sanskrit, while the genus Santalum was named in the modern
era. So shouldn't any wood, including Pterocarpus santalinus, that has
been sold as "sandalwood" or a cognate thereof for hundreds of years,
be accepted as a true sandalwood?
