Back in 2008, when I did the cooking for al-Hafla, the former Bright Hills baroness attended the event and gifted a jar of spice rub. It was made by Kiri. The baroness had urged me to attend "A Day in the Middle East," and for the past three years I kept meaning to get there, so I could meet Kiri in person and thank her.

The jar has resided in a cabinet; I wanted whatever I made with it to be for a special occasion. But tonight, that medieval Middle Eastern spice rub is getting slathered on some lamb in her honor. and the candles will be lit.
