That's actually two different formats, The Chicago Manual of Style and The 
MLA (Modern Language Assn of America) Style Manual.  The greatest difference 
between the two is how they handle footnotes.  I assume this means you may 
choose to use either system.

The requirement is kingdom specific rather than general.
