anything that
bills itself as pilaf may be questionable as pilaf is a late addition to
English.  Rather than all the flim-flam, why not use (Cato, IIRC) a  
recipe for polenta that is a demostrable method for preparing grain from
Antiquity to the Modern Eras?

I can't remember if Cato's recipe is in here, but here are some  
polenta discussion and recipes.

Iam did request something popular though, and I'm not sure that  
polenta fits that request in the SCA.
