Why not? You're talking about a 10th Century recipe. It is very probable
that the recipe was known to the Ottomans, who started their push into
Central Europe in 1516 and controlled portions of Hungary from 1541 until
1699. Since the earliest European recipe we have so far is from 1581 from a
Hungarian cook in the employ of the Hapsburgs, it is possible that the dish
represents a cultural transfer to Europe from the Ottomans via the Eastern
Hungarian Kingdom (Transylvania).
It will be interesting to compare ibn Sayyar al-Warraq to Rumpolt.
