I had just this discussion the other day with my doctor. She's really
pretty frustrated with people who come in with self diagnosed things or
things 'diagnosed' by their chiropractor or yoga teacher or whatever. A
real celiac diagnosis requires quite a bit of lab work, consults with
gastroenterology, etc. It's not something 'diagnosed' by simply dropping
something out of your diet. If you feel better, there's a number of
things that may be in effect.

A few years ago it was lactose, a few years before that was the yeast
thing (anything with yeast was supposed to be bad, never mind that yeast
is in the air and is present in all of your food, to some extent). I
remember the 'hypoglycemia' fad. I have to wonder what comes next.

I have fibromyalgia. This diagnosis came from a team of practicioners,
including an endocrinologist and two rheumatologists. But it is also one
of the latest fad diseases, and it really irks me to hear someone say
'oh I must have fibromyalgia- I'm tired all the time' when I know that
they stay up all night playing WOW, eat crap, and haven't seen a doctor
in a decade. This is a real problem because it cheapens the diagnosis
for the rest of us.

If you have real celiac disease, I am very sorry. But don't let someone
demean your genuine disease by playing it part time. It doesn't help any
of us.
