We were a day without power, from about 9 PM Monday to 9:30 PM Tuesday, in my town in Bucks County. My sister in law, who lives in the same town but on the other side of it, didn't get power back until Wednesday. Wednesday, the Wawa convenience store by my house was being run by a generator and people were lined up to get gas. As of today, parts of Bucks County are still without power. I work in Mercer County, in Central New Jersey, and coworkers and friends in the Princeton, Monmouth, and Middlesex areas are still without power. My parents and sister in Bergen County are still without power. My office had power on Tuesday, but there were still a lot of downed branches and wires, making driving difficult.

Personally, things could have been far worse. We didn't even lose refrigerator/freezer contents. Ironically, last Friday, I had met up with friends in NYC in the East Village for dinner at Cafe Mogador after some work-related stuff; we were wandering around in the too-balmy air, and I was thinking, "This doesn't feel right." Like we were partying in Pompeii before Mount Vesuvius blew. And everything entwined in my childhood memories of the Jersey Shore is now just obliterated.
