[Sca-cooks] NOT in Spain...

Benedicte,
I am glad to know that there are those on this list and elsewhere who know me well enough to know how I write and spell things...like my NAME!!

Also note, I DO usually preface all my writings with a Latin greeting..."Benedicte"

and would most certainly never display the lack of hope or panic as proposed in THAT letter...

I'm sorry, you've just hurt some poor scammer's ego.  I'm sure he was feeling clever using an email address with an extra "r" tucked in the name on the address, but Marcus doesn't spell his name "loidorlt".

In any event, the message is a rip-off of a variant on the Spanish Prisoner con that's been on the net for over two years.  The original message I saw was for London rather than Madrid, but the opening is almost a word for word crib of that letter.  Unimaginative and unoriginal criminality, unfortunately, the scammer probably won't get his desserts.  Couldn't they at least be entertaining?

I received a similar one for Edinborough , Scotland and Johannasburg, South Africa. The one from Scotland I did call the person directly because his family was planning to go visit.
This scam was also a letter/postcard scam according to my Grandfather. His Dad was the Post Master here in California and had seen these things as far back as the 1940's.

SNIP SNAP

TOTALLY SPAM-A-LICIOUS.

I am shocked that anyone would take these bogus messages seriously. This particular message, with "victims" and locations changed (remember those saying they were in London?), has been going around for a few years. But on another SCA list, people began asking where to send the money. Sigh.

I got one of these from one of my accounts sent to me from one of my other accounts that was cancelled several years previously, I really sounded upset at being mugged .... sometimes they are using an email address from someone's address book they hacked so it isn't actually from the person in question.
