For a while I've been trying to find a way to compress my book's worth of  
research into the (under-studied) food of early medieval France into 
something  succinct and clear for my Web site. Finally I decided to create a table  
comparing early/mid medieval food with (the more familiar) late medieval 
food.  Which has taken me a while, but here's what I've got so far, for those
