Have you stopped to consider the size of a great household and what they 
required of the pantry on a daily basis?  One of the English households in 
the High Middle Ages had the Lord and Lady travelling seperately each with 
their own household.  He having 125 in his and she having 93 in hers.  Add 
in the staff at any manor where they took residence and you are looking at 
at least 500 pounds of bread per day.  The baker traveled several days in 
advance of the Lord's party, so that the pantry would be full when they 
arrived.  I'd really like to find a description of what was in the baggage 
train.

As for the spices, they wouldn't be in the pantry.  They would be in the 
possession of household clerk locked in a strongbox.
