I used a more common spelling as being more understandable to the general 
reader.  We should point out for anyone who doesn't know, that Haci, Hadji, 
Hajji, and Haji is an honorific denoting an observant Moslem who has made 
the pilgrimage to Mecca rather than a given name.  I have also encountered 
him as (Ali) Bekir Effendi, which suggests he was a highly respected man in 
the community.

Does Isin give any other information about about the origin?
