Lacking documentary evidence such as the longed for "the Saga of Olaf the Oaf" and some indication of the results upon the drink of the time I must agree. Sadly I do despair that such might be found. Tis unfortunate that what we think logical is not there in recorded.

live to tell the tale? Absence of evidence in this case covers roughly
three centuries and a number of locales with fairly decent documentation.
While we can not be certain that someone in Scandinavia did not use freeze
distillation, the fact that it doesn't appear to be traditional in Iceland,
the Orkneys, the Shetlands or the Faroes, strongly suggests that the
evidence is absent because freeze distillation was not used.
