[Sca-cooks] Habis

The reason for the variations on the name of this dish has to do with the appearance of the initial letter. In Arabic, the word khabis is spelled خبيص. The initial letter is خ (kha), which is similar in appearance to ج (geem, pronounced like a hard or soft g), or ح (Ha). Hence the three variant pronunciations (khabis, jabis, or habis).
