Open question about boiling the wort a second time after the mashing. 
Mashing has used boiling or near boiling water since the time of the 
Sumerians (reference The Hymn to Ninkasi), but boiling wort doesn't seem to 
happen before 1600.

To really find out when it starts, you probably need to reference 18th and 
19th Century brewing texts until you find a starting date, then compare 
comments of quality and spoilage of beer and ale over time.

Along those lines was the wort boiled in period before yeast were added
when making ale or beers?
Any evidence either way?
