The folks who are typically comped in our barony are the Royals (including those who might be visiting from outside our kingdom), our baron and baroness, the event steward/autocrat, and the feast steward/head cook. That said, if your local group typically comps the head cook and you've been asked to cook for an event held by another group, you would probably do well to ask about the local traditions in advance.

Our barony was so small in its inception mumbly years ago (and is still not all that large), that when I was Baroness I paid event fees, because every penny counted. We comped visiting Royals (although if they paid, we just thanked them, including a King who understood the economics of small groups--we argued about that briefly and then conceded to His desire), the Head Cook (first in, last out, personal stocks), and kitchen staff if they worked the event hard (usually broke students). I have no idea what our financial statement says now, but that was our policy for a good couple decades.
