Okay, found a way around the problem, at least on the Feasting and Fasting 
Proceedings.

When it first comes up, the Download PDF option is not in the drop down 
Tools list.  It's actually a search page locating the the proceedings title 
in the book.  Clicking on the red "View Ebook" button on the left side of 
the screen brings up the proceedings catalog page which does have the 
Download PDF option in the drop down.

The "gear" is the Google symbol for "Tools."

Just a word of advice, "Download PDF" does not appear as an option on all of
the selections.  It's probably Google being sloppy.

DON'T ask for the ebook. It costs. Find that "gear", click on it (right
click? left click?) and the last option should be "download PDF". Click
on that, decipher the funny letters, open the download and save it to
your computer.
