[Sca-cooks] Period Feasts, bread, butter

Perhaps if bread was thought of as a mainstay part of the diet and not an afterthought, it would be easier to understand the 1-2 pounds a day suggestion for workers who spent their days in hard physical labor.  I'd suggest taking a look at Peter Brears' books on cooking and dining in England or you might like this article from Penn State.
