For those of us with friends in Atlantia, I received word earlier today that Master Chirhart Blackstar OL, OP (mka Truman Barnes) passed from us yesterday.
He was originally from the Kingdom of Atenveldt, moving to Atlantia early in its history. The barony of Bright Hills (Baltimore) in Atlantia was invested literally in his home when at the last minute, the official site had to be closed due to an ice storm. He and his wife sort of fell into forming and running a household, Blackstar, and took quite a number of good gentles under his wing. He loved cooking and feeding everyone he could, and headed the kitchen of countless events and turned out spectacular feasts, both in and out of the barony. There was a running joke at Pennsic that if you left their camp hungry, you had to work at it. His camp hosted the famous Mongolian Barbecue Night.
He had a heart of gold, never did I hear so much as a cross word from his lips. He holds a dear space in my heart with much shared history in the SCA. I camped with him or across the street from him for 5 Pennsics. His loss is an immense hole in my heart, and I am cursing the circumstances that will prevent my attending Pennsic for his memorial in Chez d'Argent, my old campmates.
To your memory Chir, I give an accolade I seldom utter.
You were one of the good ones.
