Around 40 years ago, a variant of this turned up in Soldier of Fortune.  It was being used by some Special Operations soldiers for hydration during field exercises in conjunction with StressTabs to replace vitamins and minerals. Used with Tylenol and multi-vitamins,  it's a really effective in the field, hydrating, replacing vitamins and minerals, and reducing muscle inflammation.

One needs to find the right mix of vinegar, honey and water to suit one's taste.  But it can be kept on hand as oxymel and cut with water as needed.
