> >that the cakey things baked in the > >mini Bundt pans are indeed her poundcakes. > > Sorry question from an iggerant Aussie- what are bundt cakes (or bundt > meetings?)- I heard it from American tv but have no idea what it is...(like > your high school/uni terminology, that has me permanently confused) Bundt pans are tube pans with a particular fluted pattern around the outside. School terminology: Most children start school around age 5 in kindergarten. Grades 1-6 are generally "elementary school", 7-9 are "junior high school" and 10-12 are "high school". Some areas use 1-5/6-8/9-12 (in which case 6-8 are often called "intermediate school"). After high school, one goes to college/university (a college is a single "school", teaching courses within one discipline; a university has several colleges within it, i.e. a School of Liberal Arts, a School of Nursing, a School of Engineering, a School of Management, etc). A two-year degree is called an "Associate" degree, a four-year degree is a "Bachelors" or "Baccalaureate". Associate degrees may be of "Arts" "Sciences" or "Applied Sciences". Bachelors degrees may be of "Arts" "Fine Arts" or "Sciences" (I don't know any others). After a Bachelors degree, one may engage in "graduate studies", which lead to either Masters degrees or Doctoral/Doctorate degrees (some disciplines require the Masters degree first, some don't). These get all kinds of complicated, and I certainly don't know all the variations. There are Masters degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, Sciences, Business Administration and Public Health, to name a few. Doctoral degrees are many, and include Medical Doctor, Juris Doctor (the proper title of a law school graduate), Doctor of Divinity, Doctor of Education, Doctor of Sciences (a rare degree which follows the Master of Sciences degree) and Doctor of Philosophy (which can follow a Master of Arts or Master of Sciences degree). How's that for a summary? **************************************** Randall Cook of Northpass (soon to be "of Sudentur") (formerly Avraham haRofeh) mka Randy Goldberg MD
