Sounds like I was raised in a unique environment.  I can not remember a
time when I did not know what sugarplems were. 

We used to make them, and candied oramge rind every fall, was part of the
cgristmas tradition.  Both Ethel Swchitzburger and her friend Mrs
Dalmond<they had migrated from germany together with their husbands in
about 1900> Ethel's husband was the Dalmonds hired man for his entire
adult life. 

Reminds me, I need to see if I can't find a place to get those Dutch
filled hard candies<like a horsepill in a frosty white hard sugar, with a
soft fruit filling>.  time to start getting ready for the holidays.
<maybe Anya can send me some with the regular marzipan shippment from
Holland>.

  You are aware that "sugarplum" was used for any dried, sugared
  fruit and not just plums, right?
