I've never been bothered by "autocrat" for the same reason: it's a real word. I equate the term "feastocrat" to Gordon Ramsay's opinion of "executive chef": some jerk who sits in a back room and doesn't do anything. I'm a cook. A feastocrat is some jerk who can't cook but wants to be mentioned in the event program. And it does seem to play out that way here. Those who say they're cooks turn out good feasts. Those who say they're feastocrats don't. I played Old World/New World food game at a demo last Saturday. Scary how few could recognize avocado, whole nutmeg or vanilla bean without prompting.
