my newspaper this morning has an article "sweet nostalgia" which contains the following description of musk stick lollies. I thought it was timely and I should share :) "Musk stick Imagine walking into a thick cloud of Glen 20 while sucking on a mouthful of artificially sweetened sawdust and know what eating a musk stick is like. Bright pink and sweet enough to raise the dead, the musk stick is the only confectionery that tastes like your nanna's handbag smells. Often known as chalk lollies, musk sticks are made from powdered ingredients, mostly dextrose (also known as glucose), which is extruded to produce its distinctive fluted shape. In my day, the semi-soft sticks were too intense to eat en masse and were therefore often used as a colourful adornment, worn curled behind the ear or moulded provocatively across your nose. It was widely accepted that wearing a musk stick behind your ear all lunchtime in summer greatly enhanced its taste." Margaret/Emma Melbourne, Australia/Krae Glas, Lochac
