Oh, Good Lord: The *Venerable Laurel Scribes* (tm) are beginning to
opine on our tools and books (i.e. Geoff and Serena....now if we can
just get Rose and Sara, et al to comment...lol). As for yours
truly...and okay, I'm a little rusty...

Books.

Step One: Make the Pilgrimage to Mistress Lasair's Library. 'Nuff
said. Heck, I just wish she would catalogue her C&I Books! Then again,
a pilgrimage to Mistress Serena's library is worth the trip.

I was waxing poetic the other day about an odd book for illuminers:

"Painting for Calligraphers" by Marie Angel
Binding: Hardcover, 128 pages
Publisher: Overlook Press, The
Published Date: 12/01/1997
List: USD $35.00
ISBN: 0879518049

Spectacular techniques for gouache and watercolor. She's my hero!

Mistress Serena is dead on right (as usual - *wink*): anything by de
Hamel and\or Bologna are what I call a "bang for the buck" book. It's
worth my money and an excellent survey of several time periods. She's
also right in that as you go along, you'll find that...thing...that does
it for you, and you'll start noticing and collecting the books and
authors that appeal to you. You'll start out broad, then narrow it
down. Carolingian was my first love.

My advice: hole up with a stack of books in a comfy corner somewhere
(with lots of chocolate, of course) and peruse. *Then* go back over the
books again...and again....with a very critical eye. Shut the world out
(except for the chocolate, of course). Soon, you'll see
that....thing....

BTW: Check out Kolinsky Sable brushes.

Happy hunting!
