Greetings scribes, I'm forwarding this missive from a metalsmithing list,
but I think it's of interest to those of us in the scribal arts as well.
Since seals are often used in completed scroll works, some of you may be
interested in seeing this project available online.
So, check out the site, and consider sending a letter supporting the idea.
Cheers, Hillary Greenslade, Ansteorra

> The University of Durham in the UK is trying to drum up enough
> support (no money, just letters of support) to get their Medieval
> Seals project online. Here is a blurb from the website: "MEDIEVAL
> SEALS ON-LINE is concerned not only with seals of kings, bishops,
> knights, monasteries and the like, but also those of ordinary
> people (almost unknown, although in fact some four-fifths of all
> surviving seals). This will be a new source of historical
> evidence - for individuals, for the craftsmen and their markets,
> for the law, for art and design, for popular taste and for much
> else. The 20,000 seals to be dealt with - a valid sample for
> research - will be about 5% of all those surviving." There is

> you can send to the University declaring your support for the
