[Scriptoris] Period Display of Scrolls?

I am not sure if this is even remotely period or not but when I was
growing up, many homes had special wooden tables with a slanted top and a
lip at the bottom. These tables were used for an unabridged dictionary
or the family bible. There were also tabletop versions of this and some
even had beautiful brocade or embroidered covers. While this may not be
period, it could be adapted for display purposes and work well. If
showing framed original scrolls, it would minimize the glare from the
glass and the piece would be at a better angle for reading without
bending over.

Does anyone know if anything similar was used in period, perhaps for
ecclesiastical books?
