Perhaps we could try Norse vice Latin.  My own birthplace of Novgorod was originally
named Holmgaard by the Varangians when they established it.

I think that a suitable Norse name might serve as a fitting tribute to Ragnar as
well.

The Norse name could center around a "Guardians of the South(ern Border)" theme a la
one of Ragnar's great poems.
