SR - Southern Principality Proposals at Tempio

Greetings, all.

I think that I was the one who first proposed doing a joint principality with
the Western Region. There's lots of good reasons for it, and I would be more
than glad to speak about why I think it's a great idea.

A few of those reasons?

(1) Most of the West is closer to us than you think.

(2) Western Region folks are a lot of fun, and so are their events (meaning
that even if we didn't go "halvsies" with 'em on a principality, if you haven't
been there yet, make the effort to go. Mendersham's as close as Ft. Worth if
you're leaving from Austin. And we *all* had a *blast* at Kingdom A&S in
Bonwicke -- especially the Laurels!)

(3) The West *needs* us, folks. They have few recognized peers (note I said
"recognized" - I think they've got several folks who are long overdue to be
elevated to the various peerages). Hardly anyone travels to the West -- a large
part of the problem of why people who should have peerages out there don't --
the Crowns don't even get out that way much, much less the Peerage Circles. The
folks in the West want our artists to come teach them, our officers and
Pelicans to help them grow in service, our knights and excellent warriors to
teach them the arts of war and to grace their tourneys, and our nobility to add
pageantry to their events.

(4) We need the West. They have a nice, stable border that won't be changing
anytime soon. A principality, whether or not you *ever* intend to be a
kingdom, should be drawn in such a way that if, sometime later down the road
folks *do* want to become a kingdom, the map will allow this type of growth.
But the West also has lots of very nice people who are hospitable, interesting,
and fun. They have a lot to teach us, perhaps the most important being the
sense of fun and of wonder that way too many people here in the "heartland"
have lost by becoming jaded, cyncial old farts (yup, I'll include myself in
that list). We have much to gain by including the West, and nothing to lose.

I can go on...

I will be at Tempio, specifically for this discussion. Pug, if you want to
pitch the "Us Plus the West" view, I won't slow you down. But I'd also be
pleased to do it myself.

Before I volunteer for certain, how "small" are you talking in your
proposal? This may be a simple matter of perspective.

Ciao,
