Academy of the Courtier
In just two more day the Academy of the Courtier will open. The Baronies of
Bryn Gwlad, Bjornsburg, Raven's Fort, and the Shire of Tempio will host
this Academy, where will be taught, demonstrated, and lectured on many
topics that would interest a
Sixteenth-century gentle. Some class topics include:The Roaring Ladies of
London, Gambling and Games, Historical Russia, A Brief Chronology of
Weapons, Geometry of Fence, Vincentio Saviolo - his practise, The Italian
Courtesan, The English Prostitute, Tilting at the Rings, Period medicine...
and many
others.
The Barony of Raven's Fort will be running an Archery range. Any who would
wish are welcome to come and practice that prized skill. If you have never
had the opportunity, lessons and equipment will be available throughout
the day.
On Sunday, a friendly fencing competition will take place to sharpen any
skills that may have been learned the previous day. Wagers happily
encouraged.
This event will take place at the Singing Hill horse farm outside of
Taylor, Texas. The site will open at 5:00 on Friday, Nov. 13 and close at
3:00 on Sunday, Nov. 15. Pets are welcome on a leash and with written
proof of current rabies vaccination only. Site fee is $8.00 for adults,
$4.00 for children 6-12, and no family will pay more than $24.00. Make
checks payable to SCA Inc. - Barony of Bryn Gwlad.
The feast fee is $6.00 per person and will provide both a lunch and
dinner.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
When you turn off of 79 on to the County roads, MIND THE SPEED LIMITS.
These are roughly paved roads and they will simply "dogleg" with very
little warning.
You could end up in a field or badly scraping the bottom of your vehicle.
>From Houston:
Take 290 West to Elgin. There you will turn North on 95 and
drive to Taylor. Just outside Taylor, take 79 East until you reach Co. Rd
421. (Careful, it's hard to see.) Turn left on 421 and drive until you run
into Co. Rd 414. Turn right. Singing Hill farm is on the right. (The site
is 3.8 miles after you turn off of 79.)
>From Dallas :
Take I35 South to Round Rock. Take the 79 (Taylor) exit and
head East on 79. Stay on 79 (Business 79 will take you right through
Taylor, 79 will go around it) until you get to Co Rd 421. (From I35 to Co.
Rd 421 is about 23.4 miles.) Turn left on 421 and drive until you run into
Co. Rd 414. Turn right. Singing Hill farm is on the right. (The site is
3.8 miles after you turn off of 79.)
>From San Antonio/Austin :
Take I35 North to Round Rock. Take the 79 (Taylor) exit and head East on
79.
Stay on 79 (Business 79 will take you right through Taylor, 79 will go
around it)
until you get to Co Rd 421. (From I35 to Co. Rd 421 is about 23.4 miles.)
Turn
left on 421 and drive until you run into Co. Rd 414. Turn right. Singing
Hill farm
is on the right. (The site is 3.8 miles after you turn off of 79.)
Lodgings for horses is $20 for the weekend and space is limited, so please
make reservations with Do-a Gwenno. Horses must have current negative
Coggins.
Lodgings for humans can be found in Round Rock and Taylor.
Camping is available on-site. Ground fires are permitted.
