Good Greetings Unto all who Receive These Words,
Their Excellencies, Sir Pendaran Glamorgan and Mistress Jehanne
d'Avignon, Baron and Baroness of Bryn Gwlad do invite one and all to
come and enjoy the hospitality of their fair barony at the upcoming
Baronial Faire and Championships. There will be many wondrous activities
for both young and old, thereby assuring fun for everyone who attends.
This year, we celebrate our faire with a Celtic theme, so come dressed
in your best plaids and take part in the many activities that await you.
Celtic Games: there shall be a caber toss and a sheep toss to
test your strength, a three man foot race/story relay to test both your
speed and your memory, and the infamous Kilt a Celt 50 yard dash. There
will also be children's versions of the caber and sheep toss as well as
the story relay for the children to enjoy.
Championships: Their Excellencies will take this faire to choose
their new chivalric, rapier and archery champions. The chivalric list
will be a Swiss Five tournament, thus guaranteeing a great deal of
fighting for everyone. Each round will feature a different weapons
style, so bring all of your weapons! The rapier list shall feature a
variety of fun and unique scenarios that will assure everyone plenty of
role playing and fighting. The archery list will also feature differing
shoots that will allow contestants to come and shoot throughout the day
while also participating in the games or other lists. Honor, glory, and
fabulous prizes await those who wish to test their skill and strength in
these championship tournaments!
So that we may celebrate our culture, there shall be an Arts and
Science competition with a Celtic (documentation is required). Any other
types of displays and demos are also encouraged.
There shall also be a quest sponsored by Her Excellency,
Mistress Mari ferch Ratheon. Come and test your wits against the devious
mind of the Baroness of Bjornsborg!
For the evening's feast, Lady Tabitha Baker will fill your
bellies with a Gaelic feast of bread, butter and cheeses; Guinness Stew
(has alcohol); boiled cabbage and bacon; barm brack and fruit. You need
to reserve a spot since 80 places are currently available. You may also
wish to bring your own table as tables at the site are limited. Please
contact the head cook concerning any special dietary needs. (Rhonda
Leggett (512) 276-786). There will also be bragging contest that will be
held during the feast. All boasts in the contest should be limited to
things that occurred during the day at the faire. So sharpen your wits
and be prepared to tell a few tall tales about the day's events.
Following the feast, Their Excellencies will hold a bardic
circle where they will choose their Baronial Bard (for singers, story
tellers, etc.), Court Musician, and Court Performer, (for dancers,
jugglers, jesters, etc.). So join Their Excellencies for an evening's
entertainment with the finest entertainers in the land.
Is that not enough to do? Very well, the renowned Bryn Gwlad
Brewer's Guild will sponsor a tavern for the enjoyment of the populace.
Donations to the guild are appreciated!
Please see the Bryn Gwlad wed site at www.bryn-gwlad.org for
further details and directions to the site.
As you can see, there are a multitude of events planned, so come
visit Bryn Gwlad this weekend and enjoy the hospitality and friendship
of our barony.
Yours Most Sincerely,
Pendaran & Jehanne, Bryn Gwlad
