been off the edge for a bit and was told about this "must see" event ... if
you are in the Austin area, or can get here today/this weekend, this show
is a *must see* if you love drumming in general and taiko in particular ...
not sure if they are doing tours anywhere else, would be in your interest to
check and if they come to your area see them !!!

Tetshin Daiko
Stubb's, 8pm

That distant rumbling isn't another storm coming up from the Gulf Coast;
rather it's wave after wave of pounding rhythms slamming our shores from
a tsunami started in Japan. Originating on the island of Kyushu, Taiko drum
troupe Tetshin Daiko are a group of Nippon Steel factory workers who beat
out tribal tattoos like Mother Nature with a hammer and anvil. Part
ceremony, part musical performance, Tetshin Daiko's shows are above all a
theatrical presentation said to mesmerize audiences with Japanese myths
and dancing dragons. On their first international tour, the eight-man troupe
performs thrice in Austin: at Stubb's; Friday the 25th at the Texas Union
Ballroom; and Saturday the 26th at Austin Children's Museum's
International Children's Festival. Bring a hat; a hard rain's gonna fall.
