Actually, I've heard a good argument that this is a new millenium.  We use the 
Gregorian calendar which was created by the Catholic Church.  If it's their 
calendar, they should be the experts.  The Pope announced that this is the 
start of the new millenium and he should know as the head of the church 
which created the calendar.

I know the reasoning for this not being the millenium also.  I just hope the 
marketing people believe that this is the new millenium.
